From Boardroom to Padel Court: Why Business Conversations Don’t Have to Happen at a Desk

Phone calls, Teams calls, breakfast meetings… and now, padel meetings?

This morning, business took on a whole new setting – the court.
Instead of a boardroom table, we had rackets in hand, chasing down shots (and, if I’m honest, our pride). The competitive spirit kicked in almost immediately. What started as a friendly game quickly became a high-energy battle, proving that when you put two athletes on the opposite side of the net, they don’t hold back.

I was playing alongside Joe Bateman – my doubles partner and fellow member of the so-called “dream team.” Across the net? Two of the athletes we represent at Crossover Partners. It was a perfect mix of work, play, and just the right amount of banter.

And here’s the thing:
Not all valuable business conversations happen while sitting still. Some of the best ideas, the strongest connections, and the most memorable moments happen when you step away from your desk. A padel match might not look like a “meeting” in the traditional sense, but when you’re sweating, laughing, and competing alongside someone, you build a very different kind of rapport.

Whether it’s golf, a walk in the park, or something a little more fast-paced, there’s something to be said for blending business with a shared experience. For us, today’s padel match wasn’t just a game – it was networking, relationship-building, and a reminder of the drive and competitiveness that fuels the athletes we work with.

So, if anyone thinks they can keep up with me and Joe… you know where to find us. 🎾📩
